Design Forge

Design Forge is an annual design thinking conference held by the Center for Design Thinking and Elon By Design at Elon University. In addition to redesigning the main Elon By Design website, I built a new site to hold all conference materials and information for both in-person and virtual 2021 Forge participants.

Overview

Brief notes on some of the elements I considered when building this site!
Wireframing

Though I was working with a pre-existing Wordpress theme the made building the site very easy, it was important to organize the information in a way that was easy to understand and followed themes present in the main site so the cognitive load on the user was reduced.

Photo Selection

The Center for Design Thinking had a pre-existing archive of photos through the years, but many of them were already in use on the main site and COVID-19 restrictions made it difficult to create any new ones. Rather than re-using photos, we developed secondary brand elements to serve as the visual identity for the Forge until they were able to take new photos to make the site visually interesting and consistent. I also created alt-text and other accessibility features on both sites.

Copy Writing

Though the Forge had been held pre-Pandemic, there had never been a need for a digital home and therefor much of the copy for the website had never been written. I worked with the Director of the Center for Design Thinking, Danielle Lake, to develop copy that was informational and within the pre-existing language used in other CDT resources.
